One Station, Two Lines of Defence

When a chemical splash happens, the response window is measured in seconds — not minutes. A worker with acid on their forearms and in their eyes should not have to choose between two fixtures at opposite ends of a workshop. The DAAO6610 combination safety shower and eyewash station puts both on a single pedestal: a 10-inch overhead drench shower for whole-body decontamination and a 10-inch eyewash bowl with twin spray heads for ocular flushing, mounted on one 2410 mm stainless steel column.

That combined layout is what ANSI Z358.1 anticipates for most industrial hazards. It halves the floor space required, it halves the plumbing runs, and — most importantly — it removes any hesitation about where to go. One location, one clearly marked unit, both flushing functions available simultaneously.

Certified Performance, Not Just Claimed Performance

The DAAO6610 is manufactured and tested against ANSI Z358.1-2014 and EN15154-1/2:2006, the two standards specifiers and insurers most commonly ask for.

Meeting them means hitting real flow numbers. The drench shower delivers ≥ 75.7 L/min (20 GPM), the figure ANSI sets as the minimum for a plumbed emergency shower, distributed across a 10-inch (26 cm) dished head so the spray pattern covers the shoulders and torso rather than drilling a single stream onto the crown of the head. The eyewash delivers ≥ 11.4 L/min (3 GPM) through twin aerated heads — far above the 1.5 L/min ANSI floor — producing a soft, high-volume flushing pattern that will not force contaminants deeper into the eye.

Both are designed to sustain those rates for the full 15-minute flush the standard requires, on a supply pressure of 0.2–0.6 MPa.

Why 304 and 316L Stainless Steel Matter

Emergency equipment spends 99.9 % of its life doing nothing — and that idle time is exactly when it degrades. Galvanised or painted carbon steel columns corrode internally, and the first thing a user receives in an emergency is a burst of rust-coloured water into an already injured eye.

The DAAO6610 is built in 304 stainless steel throughout the wetted path, with a 2.5 / 3 mm pipe wall that resists knocks from forklifts, hoses and passing equipment. For aggressive atmospheres — coastal and offshore sites, chlor-alkali plants, pickling lines, fertiliser handling, pulp and paper bleaching — specify the 316L option, whose molybdenum content resists chloride pitting far better than 304.

The polished finish is also a practical choice: it stays visible under poor lighting, wipes clean easily, and shows no chalking or paint failure after years of UV exposure outdoors.

Hands-Free Activation and Everyday Usability

The shower is activated by a stainless steel pull rod with a triangular handle, hung within easy reach and operable with a forearm, elbow or wrist if the hands are contaminated or injured. The valve is stay-open: once pulled, water continues to flow until it is deliberately reset, so the user never has to hold anything for 15 minutes.

The eyewash is opened by a push-flag handle at the bowl, again a single motion requiring no grip strength or fine motor control. A dust cover protects the twin spray heads between uses and is displaced automatically by the first surge of water, keeping the nozzles free of airborne dust, insects and debris.

The unit stands on a square floor flange, bolted to a level concrete pad, with an NPT 1 1/4″ inlet and an NPT 1 1/4″ drain that lets the bowl and overflow discharge to a sump, floor drain or soakaway rather than pooling around the operator’s feet.

Where to Install It

The DAAO6610 suits outdoor process areas and hazardous classified zones — it is entirely mechanical, with no electrical components and therefore no ignition source and no ATEX wiring to specify. Typical positions are drumming and decanting stations, acid unloading bays, tank farms, laboratories, battery rooms, plating shops, and any point where corrosives are transferred or sampled.

Follow the ANSI Z358.1 siting rules: the unit must sit within 10 seconds’ unobstructed travel — roughly 15 metres — of the hazard, on the same level, with no doors or steps in the path, and with a clear, well-lit approach. Its stated working environment range of 10 °C to 35 °C means that in climates that drop below freezing, the supply line should be buried below the frost line or an anti-freeze self-draining model should be specified instead.

Maintain it as the standard requires: activate weekly to flush the line and confirm flow, and carry out a full performance inspection annually.
