Conventional plumbed safety showers arrive as a pile of components. Someone still has to run the supply line, source the mixing valve, wire the alarm, pour a plinth, and hope the finished assembly passes an ANSI audit. On a live plant with a construction window measured in days, that integration risk sits entirely with the contractor.

The DAAO6607-D skid-mounted emergency wash station removes it. Shower, eyewash, tempered water mixing system, alarm, modesty curtain and non-slip standing platform are engineered, assembled and factory-tested as one deliverable. The unit lands on a prepared surface, connects to services, and is commissioned as a complete stand-alone decontamination unit — no site fabrication, no field-assembled compliance gaps.

It is designed for facilities handling splash hazards from chemicals, hazardous liquids, solids and gases, and is aimed squarely at the harshest indoor process environments, with an operating range of 5 °C to 35 °C.

Tempered Water Is the Clause Most Installations Fail

ANSI Z358.1 does not simply require water — it requires tepid water, generally interpreted as 16 °C to 38 °C, delivered for the full 15-minute flush.

That requirement defeats a large share of installations. Cold mains water at 8 °C is physically intolerable for fifteen minutes; a casualty steps out after ninety seconds, and the flush that determines whether an injury is minor or permanent is never completed. Worse, prolonged cold-water exposure over a large body area risks hypothermia and thermal shock in an already traumatised worker.

The DAAO6607-D addresses this with an integrated tempered water mixing system, including its own hot water supply, configurable to the utilities you already have on site — steam storage (a heated reservoir charged by steam) or direct steam supply through a heat exchanger. Where steam is available, this is far more efficient than sizing an electric water heater for a 75.7 L/min duty. Multiple temperature and electrical options are offered so the unit matches the site’s voltage, hazardous-area classification and utility layout.

The outcome is simple and auditable: water at a temperature a casualty will actually stand under for the full fifteen minutes.

The Skid: Built to Take Chemical and Mechanical Abuse

The unit sits on a 1.4 × 1.4 m carbon steel reinforced skid with a non-slip walking surface — critical when the floor is being deliberately flooded with 75 litres per minute and the user cannot see.

The entire structure carries a bright yellow chemical-resistant waterproof coating with a UV inhibitor. Each element of that finish does specific work:

  • Chemical resistance — survives acid mist, alkaline aerosols and splashed process fluids that strip ordinary industrial paint.
  • Waterproofing — protects the carbon steel structure from an asset that is, by design, repeatedly soaked.
  • UV inhibitor — prevents chalking and colour fade, so the unit stays visible for its full service life and remains suitable if it is later relocated to a semi-exposed area.
  • High-visibility yellow — a chemically blinded worker navigates by colour and shape, not signage. ANSI Z358.1 requires emergency equipment to be highly visible and clearly identified.

Because the skid is a self-supporting structure, the unit can be relocated as the plant layout changes — a genuine advantage over a shower grouted permanently into a slab.

Dignity and Supervision: Modesty Curtain and Alarm

Two features address what actually happens during an emergency rather than what a datasheet assumes.

The modesty curtain. ANSI Z358.1 expects contaminated clothing to be removed so the water reaches the skin. In an open workshop, people hesitate — and that hesitation leaves corrosive material trapped against the body under a saturated overall. An enclosing curtain removes the reason to hesitate, which directly improves decontamination effectiveness.

The alarm system. A worker inside a running shower is blind, soaked and cannot call for help. The integrated alarm signals activation the moment the valve opens, alerting colleagues and supervisors that someone needs assistance and that a chemical release has probably occurred. It converts a private emergency into a supervised one.

Flexible Configuration: Stand-Alone or Multi-Shower Feeder

The DAAO6607-D operates in two modes.

As a complete stand-alone purification unit, it serves a single hazard point with everything needed for compliance built in.

As a multi-shower feeder, its tempered water system supplies additional downstream showers and eyewash points. For a plant needing several stations along a process line, this is the economical architecture: one tempering skid, correctly sized and centrally maintained, feeding multiple outlets — instead of duplicating mixing valves, heaters and controls at every location. It also consolidates temperature monitoring and maintenance to a single asset.

Compliance, Water Quality and Export

The combined shower and eyewash are certified to ANSI Z358.1, the reference standard for emergency eyewash and shower equipment. Our compliance engineering team can map the unit against the regional codes your project is audited to.

Water quality: the system requires a clean or filtered water source. Sediment and scale are what block eyewash nozzles and distort spray patterns, so where the supply is marginal, specify upstream filtration at the design stage.

Where the hazard is severe, the environment is indoor and demanding, and cold flushing water would compromise the 15-minute requirement, a tempered skid-mounted station is the correct engineering answer.
